The Suzuki Method - A Snapshot
About Madilyn Redfearn

Developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, this method is based on the idea that all children can learn in a supportive, nurturing environment—much like how they learn to speak their native language.
-
Start Early – Begin young if possible, but it’s never too late to start.
-
Step-by-Step Learning – Progress is gradual, with lots of review to build confidence.
-
Parent Involvement – Parents attend lessons and guide daily practice at home.
-
Daily Listening – Regular exposure to music builds familiarity and musical sensitivity.
-
Learn by Ear First – Students develop listening skills before reading music.
-
Structured Repertoire – Pieces are learned in a specific order, each one building on the last.
-
Positive Environment – Encouragement, patience, and joy are essential.
-
Whole-Child Focus – Suzuki nurtures character, focus, and lifelong skills—not just musical talent.

Madilyn began learning the violin at age 4 with Ronda Cole in Northern Virginia, and graduated from the Suzuki books at age 13.
Madi has always had a strong passion for music, but didn't decide to pursue it seriously in college until after finishing her freshman year at Brigham Young University. She studied with Dr. LeeAnn Morgan at BYU, and graduated with her BA in music in December, 2025.
Madi enjoys performing in the Utah Valley Symphony, playing solo violin at the Provo Farmers Market, composing and arranging music, and performing at events with her string quartet - Serenity Strings. She especially loves playing music from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
Outside of violin, Madi can be found hanging out with her husband Nate and puppy dog Finn, weightlifting, doing yoga, watching movies, hiking, and enjoying nature.
